Scotty James, the world’s #1 ranked halfpipe snowboarder, tasked CAA Sports to design him a logo in anticipation of his branded goggle partnership with Oakley.
After exploring numerous options that incorporated Scotty’s signature boxing-style snow gloves, we landed on a design that reads ‘SJ‘ and captures the dimensionality of Scotty’s snowboarding style. It was inspired by MC Escher, because Scotty, much like the famous Dutch artist, is able to create preposterous geometry with his abilities on a snowboard. The ‘SJ’ is constructed by planes that relate as impossibly as Escher’s staircase.
